We get a first person view of the action as we follow Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), a retired employee of the UN, trained in investigating some of the world’s biggest cases, as he uses his skills and intellect to find a solution to th
tiger by asics e zombie apocalypse. Lane goes on a wild trip around the globe, looking for answers and trying to narrow down who or what has started one of the worst outbreaks in human history.
The film has only just a few moments of normalcy as we watch the Lane Family tend to their morning routine. While in the car, during heavy traffic, the outbreak hits their home town of Pe tiger asic nnsylvania. From that moment on the Lanes, especially Gerry, aren’t allowed a moment of peace. After spending a terrifying night in the apartment of a good Samaritan, they are rescued by the US Government. That is after they are chased up several flights of stairs by way too many, super scary looking zombies.
The Lane Family are then taken to a naval ship several miles off the coast. There Gerry learns that he has to come out of retirement in order to ensure his familys place on the ship and to pretty much save the world. He travels to South Korea, Jerusalem and then on to a W.H.O facility in the UK. Gerry’s travels takes him from one dangerous, zombie infested situation to another.
WWZ doesn’t let up from the start. It’s a smart, scary action movie that will have you on the edge of your seat as Lane and his team (some of them) narrowly miss zombie attacks. The tension is high and the scare factor is higher.
The film also stars Mireille Enos (Gangster Squad) as Connie Lane, Daniella Kertesz (WWZ is her first American film) as Segen, Sterling Jerins (The Conjuring) as Constance Lane, Abigail Hargrove (a short, The Butterfly Circus) as Rachel Lane and a surprise (for me anyway) appearance by Matthew Fox (Lost) as a Parajumper. It was nice to see a familiar face and totally unexpected that it was such a humble part.
World War Z only came in second this past weekend, with Monsters University at number one. With The Lone Ranger and Despicable Me 2 hitting theaters July 4th weekend it is likely this film will be pushed further back on the Box Office list.
